Why You Should Get Over Your Fears And Go For Your Dreams

This portion of Roosevelt’s speech is by far the most powerful part of the president’s quote. When you let fear take over your mind you are allowing yourself to be stopped in more ways than one. First, when you spend time focusing on the fear, you are not allowing yourself to get clear on the steps to reaching your dream. Second, think about the physiological damage you are doing to yourself. Fear can actually cause damage to your long-term memories and affect certain parts of the brain such as the hippocampus (that’s responsible for learning and emotions).

What are you really afraid of?

Typically the thing we fear most is a failure. Nobody wants to be a failure in their life. This is why we will choose NOT to do something instead of taking a chance of failing at it.  After awhile the more we allow fear to step in, the easier it is for the fear to come back in the future.

Fear is like a drug, the more you allow it in your system, the more your body craves its comfort.

Your body is using fear as a way to protect you. It’s trying to protect you from the shame of failing. That’s why you have to ReWire your mind around failure.  Instead of looking at these failures in a negative way, think of them as a lesson to be learned.

Maybe when you tried to overcome your fears, you didn’t achieve your goals.

But you figured out exactly how NOT to achieve them. You can now pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and try again. Don’t wait, get up immediately, and get back to work.

The longer you sit and wait for the fear to fade, the longer it will take to reach your dream.

On the other side of fear is everything you are wishing for. You can achieve anything you want if you push the fear aside and go all-in on yourself. Remember, the only thing you’re afraid of is feeling the shame of being a failure, and you are not a failure. You are a winner!
