Why People Buy BS vs The Real Thing

The world is full of bullshitters. Game recognizes game and BS recognizes BS. Everyone is searching for the lazy way to get rich, make sales and all that fun stuff. Just two generations ago, we preached about hard work. In present day, we preach people should work smarter, not harder. This paradigm shift has screwed up a lot of people’s thinking. People believe they are smart AND they are working, so that must mean they are working smart. The truth is most people aren’t anywhere near as smart as they think they are. I have a lot of idiots tell me how intelligent they are.

Now that we’ve established that people aren’t working as “smart” as they think, let’s get deeper. What if most people work dumb? Knowing what to do and doing it are two different stories. Everyone knows you need to market, advertise and sell to get paid. Yet, many of us will go days at a time without taking the necessary action to make a big paycheck. Working smart doesn’t mean being lazy. Just because you are smart doesn’t mean you shouldn’t work hard. Why not do both? I know why!

When someone’s selling a “push button, get-rich-the-lazy-way” product vs. your “real deal, let’s-get-to-work” product, they will take the lazy way nine times out of ten. Why? Because if they fail on the “get-rich-the-lazy-way” program they can blame the program. But if they fail at the “real deal, hard work” program, they have to take personal responsibility. People hate owning up to their own shit. They will do anything to blame anyone but themselves for their circumstances.

If what you sell is real, then it naturally requires some action in order to make it work. People run from real work. Everyone wants to get rich and be like Warren Buffet, but no one is willing to do the work he’s done. We live in a time when overnight celebrities are sensationalized. Everyone is just sitting around, in permanent purgatory, waiting for someone to see them and make them rich.

Newsflash: it doesn’t work that way. Just because you see it every day, doesn’t mean it happens. There’s only about one or two viral videos each month, which equates to about 150 overnight successes a year. Out of seven billion people, what makes you think you’re going to be one of the one-fifty? You’re better off playing the lotto. Plus, those same viral videos and overnight celebrities put in the work. What you don’t see is the work. Why? Work is not cool or glorious, so no one talks about it. Everyone wants a trophy, but not everyone is willing to practice and play.

Now back to the BS vs. real thing. The world is full of prospects just waiting on their shot, praying that one day someone will see them and give it to them. As someone who was seen and given a shot, I can tell you the shot I got was because the person who offered it saw me working my ass off.

Jordan Belfort is a prime example. He got rich promising people they could get rich the lazy way. Meanwhile the legit stockbrokers on Wall Street selling legit products made nowhere near what he did.

Here’s how you fix it.

Be present, be real and be confrontational with the thinking of your prospects. Show them if the “push button, get-rich-the-lazy-way” worked, we’d all be rich and lazy, yet here we are, still doing life like we always do. Take their delusions of grandeur and push them back to reality. Do it from a place of love and respect and they will see you actually care and have the real deal. If that doesn’t work, they deserve to have their money taken. Just remember to charge them double when they come back to you complaining later.
