Being successful shouldn’t be something your friends and family make you feel bad about.

For whatever reason as we begin to achieve more in our life, the world around us does its best to drag us back to where we came from.

It’s the crabs in a bucket theory.

No matter how much one crab tries to escape, the others will grab hold and drag it back down as they do their best to escape themselves. These crabs will literally pull off each other’s legs to keep the others from getting out!

If you’re reading this, you want more out of life.

You want to know how to be successful whether it’s in sales, mindset, or relationships—you choose to keep getting better. You should be proud of that fact as most people around us will choose to live in mediocrity.

These folks are not bad people for choosing to live this way.  The force of average has a tight grip on them and they are afraid to step outside their comfort zone.

You shouldn’t be mad at them…

They fear the unknown.  You, choosing to exit the bucket, scares them. They are so worried about failure in their own lives, they will project those fears onto you. This is why you need to be careful about who you surround yourself with.

As you progress in your life and find more success, you will continue dealing with this in one way or another. It might even come from the same people who encouraged you in the past and are now telling you to reel it back in.  The best way to handle these situations is to kill them with kindness, and let them know you appreciate their concerns.

At the end of the day, they aren’t purposely trying to harm you or keep you from reaching greatness. They just don’t have it within themselves (yet) to go out and become their best selves.

You must show them what’s possible by continuing to do great things.

As they say, “Seeing is believing.” If you make it known that you plan to be something more than you are now, plan for the negative reactions, too. Be ready to push past the haters and into the beyond. Just know that if you want to keep the skeptics at bay, you must stay consistent in your actions and words.

The more great things you do, the easier it will be for them to accept this is who you are now.
