I believe at some point in our lives we’ve all had to take a good, hard look in the mirror and ask ourselves “What the fuck am I doing?”
Our relationships, our health, our business, our goals…they all warrant the question.
When it comes to business, rarely is our problem lack of industry knowledge or needing another degree. When we do something long enough, more often than not, we tend to get good at it.
And when we have proven our adeptness and shown results over time, no one questions the literal work we do anymore.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree, and if I told you I’ve been asked about my degree more than 3 times in my career, I’d probably be lying to you. No. One. Cares.
Nope, the issues we face that hold us back are usually internal and centered around personal growth or lack thereof.
We chase the shiny thing, we get another certification, we sign up for another course, and we keep searching for the missing piece of the puzzle, the THING to get the breakthrough we so desperately desire.
We’re right to be searching, we’re just looking in the wrong place. Once we figure out the right place, everything changes.
The “What the F**k Am I Doing” Conundrum
Here are 3 areas we can seek to level up our lives.
1. Clarity
Making more money is not a goal, it’s the result of the work you do. Clarity is the understanding of what you truly want from life. What do you want your ideal day to entail?
If you could wake up tomorrow and have things exactly how you want them, what does that look like? Are you focused on moving ahead, or constantly distracted by any and everything?
Get crystal clear on what you want from life.
2. Purpose
With clarity often comes purpose. Purpose is typically touted as the “why” behind everything you do. For me, purpose means serving the world with the God-given talents I’ve been given.
When you operate with purpose, it allows you to utilize a filter for everything you do. Any time I have decisions to make, any time I question what I’m doing, any time I need to figure out what to do, I simply ask myself “Does this align with my purpose?”
If the answer is yes, I do the thing. If the answer is no, I don’t. Simplicity at it’s finest.
3. People
Finally, a lesson it took me far too long to figure out, but one that has made an inordinate impact on my business and my life, is being surrounded by the right people.
They say you are the average of the 5 people you’re around the most. My problem is I wasn’t around enough people, period. And when I sought to find people, it was always people in the same place of life I was in.
How can you expect to improve when everyone around you is the same.
Somewhere along the line, I realized sometimes you have to pay to play. When there’s money involved, you tend to weed out those who aren’t serious about improving, and “all of a sudden” you’re surrounded by people who are striving for the most elite version of themselves, and want…EXPECT…you to do the same.
Once this happens, you either level up or level out.
So if you find yourself wondering what you’re doing with your life, and need some direction, I implore you to give serious thought to these 3 areas of your life and start working towards improving them all.
