It’s no secret that if you want to win in business and life, you have to work hard. Typically that means working harder than someone else who is going after the same prize or trophy you are.

It could be for a promotion at work, a feat of physical fitness like a foot race or cycling competition, and it could be something more personal like a man or woman who’s attention you want.

In any case, you are going to have to outwork the competition if you’re going to win.

Three Simple Ways To Outwork Your Competition

There are a few simple ways you can start outworking the competition in any area of your life.

WAKE UP EARLIER!

There are 24 hours in the day. No more, No less.

The best part is, we are all given the same 24 hours to work with. Set yourself up for success by becoming hyper-aware of the time in each day and what you do with it.

If your competition is taking eight hours for sleep, that means you could be resting for six and have an extra 2 hours per day to outwork them.  The easiest way to make great use of your time is by waking up earlier.

Warren Buffet, Steve Jobs, Eric Thomas the Hip Hop Preacher, and many other hugely successful individuals discuss the value of waking up early.

The hours between four am and six am are usually quiet and allow you to focus on the task at hand. Utilize them to the best of your ability. You will be amazed at how much you can get done during this time.

LIVE AND DIE BY A CALENDAR!

If you are not currently living by a strict calendar and routine, you are not maximizing your days. The most disciplined individuals in the world understand the value of their time and waste none of it.

You must take the time to detail out every minute of your life and find a place for it on the calendar. If a task does not serve to help you achieve your goals, it should not be on your schedule.

With that being said, you must schedule a time for relaxation and to shut down for a period of recovery. Burn out is real and will devastate your productivity levels if not managed properly.

The easiest way to avoid burnout is to plan out your leisure activities alongside your work activity carefully. Do a time study to figure out what tasks you should prioritize and which tasks can be passed on to someone else to maximize your efficiency.

WORK ON YOUR FOCUS!

Focus is a superpower, and the competition is a distraction sent by the force of average to keep you from achieving greatness. If you want to outwork your competition, you need to understand how to stay focused no matter what is going on.

When you are working, avoid the many distractions of social media, messages from friends, and the nagging desire to watch the news when you know there is nothing new going on. When you can control your focus, you become unstoppable.

Install tools like the news feed eradicator for Facebook to stop yourself from mindlessly scrolling through the nonsense. Put your phone in airplane mode for 30-minute stretches and focus on a single task like writing emails or building a new marketing campaign.

Find some upbeat ambient music channels on youtube that you can listen to without the words distracting you from the task at hand. It’s easy to waste five minutes skipping around looking for the perfect playlist, so find something that lasts two or more hours.

You can also try to focus on enhancing nootropics and see if they help you get things done. Be careful with these and start slow as everyone has a different experience when using them.

Outworking your competition doesn’t have to be complicated.

Make a few simple changes in the way you approach your day and the way you work. Before you know it, you’ll be soaring to the top of the leaderboards, and everyone will wonder how you’ve done it.
