If you’re not taking action on a project or task, it’s because you don’t consider it a priority.

You need to understand that in life, we only get what we focus on. If you want to achieve your goals, you need to make them a priority. This also means you need to make all the trivial little tasks that go into achieving that goal a priority as well.

What happens to many people is they set significant goals for themselves and fail to consider all the small steps required to achieve them. So when it comes time to take action, they procrastinate because the small efforts won’t give them the same satisfaction as the big goals they’ve set.

Procrastination is the act of delaying or postponing a task or set of actions. Typically there are a few main reasons that people procrastinate, which include a lack of focus, wanting things to be “perfect,” worrying about failure, and being tired or lacking the energy to perform.

If there is a lack of focus in your life, you will struggle to find the motivation to do the work when the force of average shows up in the form of distractions. Instead of writing that blog post, you get caught up watching three episodes of the latest Netflix binge-worthy special.

You know it’s not what you should be doing, and yet you still give in. You have to find out what happens between Carol and the Tiger King! The truth is, you are letting yourself be distracted because you’re not clear on what you want in life.

If what you want is to be the most well-known blogger on the planet, you need to write those blog posts!

Another thing that causes many business owners and entrepreneurs to procrastinate is wanting things to be “perfect.”  Perfectionist mentalities cause more failure than you know.

When you are holding yourself to extremely high standards, it can be challenging to accept that sometimes “Done is better than perfect.” In this fast-paced world, you need to learn fast and implement quickly.

Why The Reason You’re Procrastinating Is A Lack Of Priorities

For those who struggle with wanting everything to be perfect, the thought of putting their name on something, incomplete drives them crazy. The sooner you can eliminate that mindset, the sooner you will take notice of the increase in your productivity. Prioritize the completion of each project and focus less on them being perfect.

If you struggle with the energy to finish the projects you set for yourself, you’ll need to break them down into smaller, more manageable tasks. There is nothing wrong with taking smaller steps towards the finish line.

So long as you are moving forward, you are headed in the right direction. You might also need to consider your health and nutrition or genetics as we refer to them in the Gcode. If you’re not fueling your mind correctly, it will be harder to take action.

Eating unhealthy meals will cause your body to focus its energy on digestion and slow down your mental capacity. Are you not sleeping well? You can pretty much plan on struggling with your creativity levels and how well you will be able to focus on specific tasks.

Make your health and nutrition a priority. Eat better and get more sleep; these things will help you maintain the energy it takes to achieve the greatness you seek.

Finally, the biggest reason most folks procrastinate is that they are allowing themselves to worry more about the fear of failing than prioritizing their thoughts on success.

In life, we always get what we focus on.  So if you’re not consistently working on your mindset and fighting back against the force of average, you will continue to struggle with getting things done.

As a matter of fact, if you are allowing the fear of failure to keep you from taking action, its do to you not making success a priority. Winners focus on winning. The ONLY way to make yourself a winner is to believe you are a winner.

We all struggle with procrastination from time to time, but now that you are familiar with what causes procrastination, you can begin arming yourself for the next time it shows up. Focus on your priorities, and you’ll have nothing to worry about.
